Plenty is happening in West Side Charlotte. From local artist events to major land developments, there is a lot of action on Charlotte’s once overlooked west side.

Friday & Saturday, April 1-2: Charlotte Storytellers event at Union Shop Studio
Charlotte’s favorite live storytelling troupe teamed up with the folks at Union Shop Studios for a weekend of anecdotes about “Growing Pains.” As they put it, “Charlotte, your city is growing. Different voices from different places are converging and combining within you, and you’re beginning to form a new identity. This probably feels totally weird! But it’s normal, and we want to help.”
Development
A recent announcement that’s making headlines in Charlotte involves an otherwise unremarkable plot of land between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Catawba River. This proposed new area will feature mixed use Office, Retail, and Residential buildings along with a rarity in Charlotte – a riverfront. The “River District” is a combined effort from Lincoln Harris and Crescent Communities.
Jobs
Further progress is being made at the new Goodwill Training Center on Wilkinson Boulevard, which is due to open in Late Spring 2016. The campus is described as “a game-changer for disadvantaged job seekers, providing them with access to critical resources and supports under one roof.” A 160,000 Square Foot facility on the 18-acre site will be an anchor in the quickly redeveloping Wilkinson Boulevard neighborhood.
